With the Trade Deadline rapidly approaching, the New York Rangers face a difficult decision. They currently sit just two and four points behind Detroit and Columbus, who hold the Wild Card spots.
Given their close proximity to a playoff berth, the Rangers could opt to be buyers at the deadline. They have a valuable trade asset that many contending teams would covet. While he might only fetch a draft pick or two, his expiring contract and uncertain future with the team make a trade a logical move.

As tough as it is to admit, Matt Rempe should be on the trade block by March 7.
Teams seek his physicality
Simply put, he’s an ideal fit for a playoff team in need of an enforcer. While the Rangers could benefit from his grit and intensity, they already have other players who bring similar qualities. Adam Edström and Sam Carrick have proven to be reliable fourth-liners, contributing effectively while staying within the rules.

This is the Rangers’ last chance to get something in return for Rempe. Given his connection with the fans and the city, he might be willing to return on a team-friendly deal. However, can the Rangers afford to take that risk when he could choose to sign elsewhere for a bigger payday?
What kind of return
It’s a tough question because Rempe’s value isn’t something you measure with stats. His impact comes from his physicality, toughness, and almost vengeful presence—exactly what playoff teams are looking for.

The big question is: what would other teams be willing to give up? An everyday NHL player? A high-upside prospect? A mid-round draft pick with future considerations? It’s hard to predict.
Would the Rangers’ front office really break the hearts of fans yet again by moving another beloved player?
