The New Orleans Saints are gearing up for an intriguing offseason. Derek Carr appears set to return as the starting quarterback, now under the guidance of a new offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, the Saints made waves during the NFL Combine with their interest in Cam Ward, as hinted at by a cryptic one-word post from Ian Rapoport on X.
Saints insider Nick Underhill also weighed in, noting:
“Don’t really get into reporting on all the meetings, but here’s a notable one … The Saints met with Cam Ward.”

Currently holding the No. 9 pick in the first round, the Saints would need to make a major trade to have any chance of landing Ward, who is widely projected as the first quarterback off the board. That could mean striking a blockbuster deal with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick to secure the dynamic signal-caller.
Would Saints go after QB Cam Ward?
The Saints have a solid veteran quarterback in Derek Carr, but at 34 years old with a 77-92 career record, he has never quite reached elite status. His recent seasons—10-7, 6-9, 9-8, and 5-5—suggest consistency but not dominance.
New head coach Kellen Moore wasn’t brought in to maintain mediocrity. However, he’s saying all the right things about Carr, praising his experience and leadership.

“Derek’s a tremendous quarterback in this league,” Moore told NFL.com. “He’s had a great journey… We’re fortunate to have him, and we’re excited to go through this process as we build this roster together.”
Still, the Saints’ interest in Cam Ward has drawn attention. The dynamic quarterback carries a confidence that NFL teams find intriguing.
“Okay, you’re either going to draft me or you’re not,” Ward told AP. “If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You’ve got to remember you’re the same team that’s got to play me for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.”
Ward’s college numbers back up his swagger. He threw 158 touchdown passes and ranks third in NCAA history with 18,189 passing yards—trailing only Case Keenum and Dillon Gabriel. If the Saints are serious about upgrading at quarterback, Ward’s playmaking ability might be too tempting to pass up.
