The New York Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and while Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to be available, many analysts now believe the team will pass on him.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. is among those projecting the Giants to look elsewhere, suggesting they could instead select Sanders’ Colorado teammate, wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter.

Pairing Hunter with Malik Nabers would give New York a dynamic receiving duo—provided they find the right quarterback, which head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen must do to secure their long-term futures.

Colorado's Shedeur Sanders being selected by the Jets in 2025 NFL draft is 'perfect,' according to analyst | Sporting News

“Giants fans might be surprised to see New York pass on Sanders,” Kiper wrote. “First, opinions on him vary around the league, and he isn’t viewed as a guaranteed top-five pick. The front office and coaching staff need to win now, and betting their jobs on the class’s QB2 might not be the best move.”

Kiper also speculated that the Giants could look for a veteran quarterback instead of drafting one. Potential options include trading for Matthew Stafford or signing Sam Darnold.

A trade for Stafford could involve a first-round pick swap with the Rams, who hold the No. 26 selection. However, this move would eliminate the chance to draft Hunter, and the Giants would also need to negotiate Stafford’s rumored extension—expected to be around $50 million per year.

Alternatively, signing Darnold would allow New York to keep the third pick and draft a playmaker like Hunter. Spotrac projects Darnold’s next contract to be a four-year, $160 million deal, making him a costly but more flexible option.

Adding intrigue to the Stafford situation, reports have surfaced that Tom Brady—now a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders—has been recruiting Stafford during a ski trip in Montana. While conflicting reports exist, any legitimate Raiders interest in Stafford would further complicate the Giants’ potential pursuit of the 37-year-old quarterback.
