When the Seattle Seahawks and Uchenna Nwosu agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract extension just before the start of training camp in 2023, it signified a potential solution to the team’s long-standing instability at the edge rusher position.

However, Nwosu’s 2023 season was cut short less than three months later when he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in a Week 6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, landing him on injured reserve. His 2024 campaign was also plagued by injuries, limiting him to just six games for the second consecutive season.

In total, over the past two seasons, Nwosu has appeared in only 12 games, logging 473 defensive snaps while recording three sacks and 30 tackles. Meanwhile, Seattle has paid him over $26 million since his contract extension, leading to growing speculation among fans that the team might consider moving on from him to create salary cap space.

Uchenna Nwosu Expected to Practice, Nearing Return For Seattle Seahawks

The biggest obstacle to such a move, however, was the $6 million portion of his $14.48 million base salary that was set to become fully guaranteed on the fifth day after the Super Bowl in 2025—which happens to be tomorrow. With the Seahawks among the teams needing to clear cap space ahead of the new league year on March 12, the pressure to make a decision was mounting.

According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, the Seahawks have opted to delay making a final decision on Nwosu’s future. While no specific timeline has been provided, it appears that those hoping for an immediate roster move will have to wait. Once the amended contract is officially filed with the league and approved, details regarding a new vesting date will likely emerge.
