J.T. Miller is embracing his return to the New York Rangers after being traded from the Vancouver Canucks on January 31.
In exchange for Miller, originally selected by the Rangers with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, New York sent forward Filip Chytil, prospect Victor Mancini, and a 2025 first-round pick to Vancouver.
Speaking during the 4 Nations Face-Off break ahead of Team USA’s debut on Thursday, Miller expressed appreciation for the warm welcome he received upon his return.
“I have so many friends in the area, and the reception I got was incredible,” Miller said. “The support from my family has been amazing, and I just feel incredibly lucky that everything worked out this way.”
Since rejoining the Rangers, Miller has recorded two goals and two assists in five games. He previously spent five full seasons with the team before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning midway through his sixth NHL season.
His return also reunites him with longtime friend Vincent Trocheck. “He’s my best friend in the world,” Trocheck said. “This has been a dream 10 years in the making.”
The trade came after reports of friction between Miller and Elias Pettersson, which Canucks president Jim Rutherford later confirmed.
Coincidentally, Miller and Pettersson will face each other again when Team USA takes on Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday.
