The Cincinnati Reds have continued their trend of minor league signings, this time reuniting with corner infielder on a deal for the 2025 season. He, who was with the organization in 2024, made a brief appearance with the Reds, playing in five games just before the All-Star break, where he went 1-for-9 with a walk.

He spent the majority of the season in Triple-A with Louisville, where he was the top hitter in the Reds’ farm system. In 99 games with the Bats, He posted a .286/.385/.547 slash line. He ranked second in the system in doubles (28), home runs (22), batting average (.286), and on-base percentage (.385), while leading in slugging percentage (.547) and OPS (.932). His .932 OPS also topped the entire International League, and he finished second in home runs.

The 2024 season marked Ríos’ sixth consecutive year with at least some time in the majors. In 2020, he was part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series-winning team, appearing in all three rounds of the playoffs.

While Cincinnati used him exclusively at first and third base last season, Ríos has also played corner outfield spots in the minors, particularly during his time in the Dodgers’ system. Turning 31 in April, he appears to be more of a depth signing, much like last year. Every team needs versatile veterans, and Ríos has filled that role for multiple organizations in recent years.

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding an invitation to big league camp. His signing was listed on the transaction wire simply as a minor league deal, though it’s possible an invite to major league spring training could be revealed later.
