Tennessee secured a major addition to its 2025 transfer portal class on Sunday afternoon, landing former Duke running back. He announced his commitment on social media.
Thomas has been highly productive in recent college football seasons. He surpassed 500 rushing yards in both 2022 and 2023 while playing for New Mexico State and broke the 800-yard mark in 2024, helping Duke achieve a 9-win season.
Now, Thomas will join Tennessee’s backfield, where he’s expected to make a significant impact in 2025. The Vols are looking to fill the void left by leading rusher Dylan Sampson, who totaled 1,491 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024 before declaring for the NFL.

Tennessee still has two young running backs, DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis, returning next season. Both players averaged over 5 yards per carry in 2024.
Head coach Josh Heupel and his staff have taken a cautious approach to the transfer portal this offseason, with Thomas being just the third transfer commit for the Vols so far.
