JUST IN: San Francisco Giants Aggressiveness Land Former Top Prospect

The San Francisco Giants have a talented roster, but they’ll need to bolster it further to stay competitive in the National League West. To close the gap with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants may look to be aggressive in the trade market.

R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports recently suggested that the Giants consider trading former top prospect Marco Luciano to acquire more established big-league talent in areas of need.

“San Francisco has already made long-term commitments at third base (Matt Chapman) and shortstop (Willy Adames) since last summer,” Anderson noted. “That leaves Luciano with two potential paths: transitioning to another position on the field or joining a new organization entirely.

“Given Luciano’s appealing qualities—his youth (23 years old), impressive strength, and solid feel for the strike zone—the Giants could leverage him in a trade to acquire a player who fits their roster more clearly.”

If the Giants do decide to move Luciano, a trade with the New York Yankees could be a logical fit. The Yankees are in need of an infielder to replace Gleyber Torres, who signed a $15 million deal with the Detroit Tigers this offseason.

With Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s versatility to play multiple infield positions, the Yankees have the flexibility to add either a second baseman or third baseman. A trade package centered around Marcus Stroman and prospects in exchange for Luciano could be mutually beneficial for both teams.
