The San Francisco Giants have announced the acquisition of catcher off waivers from the Texas Rangers.

This move marks the end of His time with the Rangers.

Huff, who will turn 27 later this month, was drafted by Texas in the 7th round of the 2016 draft. From the start, he was known for his impressive power and strong arm, though concerns about his swing-and-miss tendencies and defensive capabilities behind the plate have persisted.

These questions remain relevant today. Huff has struggled with injuries, limiting his playing time and development behind the plate. This also earned him a rare fourth option year last season. However, the Rangers were not convinced by his defensive skills, and his offensive performance declined, as he posted a .246/.310/.416 slash line with Round Rock.

Last month, Huff was designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for Shawn Armstrong. As he is now out of minor league options, Huff must make the Giants’ major league roster out of spring training or face waivers again to be sent down.
