The Boston Red Sox are undoubtedly a talented team, but they need to bolster their roster further to compete with the league’s top contenders.

This offseason, they’ve added a few pitchers, highlighted by the significant acquisition of Garrett Crochet. However, their work shouldn’t stop there.

Cody Williams of FanSided recently speculated that the Red Sox might make a bold move to upgrade their lineup, predicting they could target Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who carries an $85 million contract, in a blockbuster trade.

“Boston might be the one team—or at least one of the few—that could convince Chicago to trade Suzuki after the Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker deals,” Williams wrote. “While there hasn’t been much buzz about the Cubs shopping Suzuki since Bellinger was moved, this offseason seems to be one where Jed Hoyer is looking to reduce payroll while keeping the team competitive. The Red Sox could find a way to capitalize on that.”

Though Suzuki isn’t known for his defense, he’s a strong hitter with solid power, and Fenway Park could amplify his offensive production.

The Red Sox also have the prospect depth and surplus pitching to craft an enticing trade package if the Cubs decide to entertain offers. While Chicago’s willingness to part with Suzuki remains unclear, a compelling offer from Boston might force them to consider a deal.
