The St. Louis Cardinals are still seeking a team willing to take on Nolan Arenado’s contract, which includes $52 million still owed to him.
As other teams start making moves, the trade market becomes increasingly difficult to navigate. However, one potential trade partner for the Cardinals could be the Philadelphia Phillies.
There have been rumors of the Phillies engaging in trade discussions involving Alec Bohm, though they are not actively shopping him at the moment. Despite this, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller has speculated that a swap between the Cardinals and Phillies might be possible.

“Philadelphia was one of the six teams on Arenado’s initial list of preferred landing spots,” Miller noted. “For such a deal to work, the Phillies would need to move Bohm—possibly even as part of a rare three-team trade.”
Miller’s proposal involves a three-team trade structured as follows: the Cardinals send Arenado to the Phillies, the Phillies send Bohm to the Mariners, and the Mariners send shortstop prospect Colt Emerson (ranked No. 35 overall by Joel Reuter) to the Cardinals.
This deal could benefit all sides. The Phillies would gain an upgrade at third base, boosting their chances as contenders. The Cardinals would shed Arenado’s contract and receive a top prospect in return. Meanwhile, the Mariners would add much-needed offensive firepower to their lineup.
If this trade were to happen, it could mark the beginning of a rebuild for the Cardinals. However, they would still have a strong third baseman to build around as they look toward the future.
