The Houston Astros are reportedly in the market for a corner infielder to complement trade acquisition Isaac Paredes, who can play either first or third base. This makes pursuing a first baseman or third baseman a logical move.
Recent reports suggest the Astros attempted to trade for Cardinals’ Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado, but the deal was blocked by Arenado’s no-trade clause.
FanSided’s Cody Williams proposed an intriguing alternative: a blockbuster trade for Phillies All-Star infielder Alec Bohm. Philadelphia is reportedly open to moving the young slugger.
“Bohm, despite some cold spells, was a highly productive hitter for the Phillies,” Williams noted. “He posted a .280/.332/.448 slash line with 15 home runs and 44 doubles for the season.
His numbers could improve further with the Crawford Boxes in Houston boosting his power potential. Of course, it depends on the trade price being right, but this is an option the Astros’ front office should seriously explore, especially if a Bregman reunion doesn’t pan out.”
This idea holds merit, as the Phillies would likely seek major league-ready talent in return. The Astros could offer a package centered around expiring starting pitcher Framber Valdez to land Bohm and possibly more.
