REPORT: Seattle Mariners Lands Milwaukee Brewers’ Devin Williams In 2-Player Blockbuster Trade Proposal

Spread the love

The Milwaukee Brewers possess a sought-after trade asset this offseason in closer Devin Williams. Despite having just one year of team control left, his exceptional performance and dependability could make him a game-changer for any contender. In this analysis, we explore a potential trade scenario where the Seattle Mariners acquire Williams in exchange for a top-tier infield prospect.

The Seattle Mariners have an influx of infield prospects

This offseason, the Seattle Mariners might make some trades by leveraging their areas of depth. Their farm system is packed with top-tier pitching prospects and a surplus of infield talent. One potential trade candidate is Cole Young, a shortstop/second baseman selected in the first round of the 2022 draft. Even if Young is moved, Seattle would still have infield prospects like Colt Emerson, Felnin Celesten, and Michael Arroyo in their system.

Cole Young career overview

Last season, left-handed hitter Cole Young spent the entire year in Double-A, posting a .271/.369/.390 slash line with 23 stolen bases. He demonstrated the ability to hit effectively to all fields while maintaining a strikeout rate below 20%. Defensively, Young showcased the range and arm strength necessary to remain at shortstop but also gained experience playing second base.

Milwaukee Brewers – Seattle Mariners trade proposal

This trade proposal features the Brewers and Mariners exchanging Devin Williams for Cole Young in a one-for-one deal. Last offseason, Milwaukee traded Corbin Burnes to the Orioles for two prospects, with Burnes also having one year of team control at the time. However, starting pitchers typically yield more prospects in trades. Considering Cole Young’s potential, this move could benefit Milwaukee in the long run while giving Seattle a chance to build a dominant bullpen for 2025. The Mariners have shown a willingness to part with top prospects for pitchers in the past, such as when they traded Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo for Luis Castillo in 2022.
