Oscar Gonzalez, who became a postseason hero for the Cleveland Guardians in 2022, is getting a fresh opportunity with the San Diego Padres.

That 2022 season was a memorable one for Cleveland, as they won the division with 92 wins and made a thrilling postseason run. Gonzalez emerged as a key figure, hitting a 15th-inning home run to send the Guardians to the ALDS and later delivering a walk-off single to give them a 2-1 series lead against the Yankees, though they ultimately lost the series.

Gonzalez’s performance that year, highlighted by a 123 wRC+ and clutch playoff moments, made him look like a future regular in the outfield. However, a disappointing 2023 campaign saw him struggle with a 48 wRC+ in 180 plate appearances, which led to his departure from the Guardians.

After a stint in the Yankees’ minor league system in 2024, Gonzalez chose free agency. Now, he has signed a minor league deal with the Padres for the 2025 season, hoping to revive his career.
