South Carolina football’s 4-star prospects Bryce Davis and Cortez Smith have announced their commitments to the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs, respectively.

South Carolina football is entering a pivotal period in the 2024 recruiting calendar, with at least nine targets set to announce their college decisions between July 20th and August 3rd. Head coach Shane Beamer and his staff are well-positioned to secure commitments from some of these recruits.

Tomorrow is Decision Day for 2025 Offensive Lineman Cortez Smith; Where Will He Land?

The first two announcements came on Saturday, with 4-star EDGE Bryce Davis from Greensboro, North Carolina, and 4-star offensive lineman Cortez Smith from Lilburn, Georgia, making their choices public. Davis committed to Clemson, despite South Carolina, Georgia, and Duke making significant late efforts to recruit him. Georgia had long been considered the favorite, but Clemson ultimately won out.

Smith’s recruitment was more straightforward. With finalists including South Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Miami, Smith had been heavily favored to choose the in-state Bulldogs, which he did on Saturday.

Upcoming announcements include major targets for South Carolina like 4-star safety Lagonza Hayward, 5-star EDGE Jared Smith, 4-star offensive linemen Juan Gaston and Jaylen Gilchrist, 4-star safety Kendall Daniels, and 4-star wide receiver Malik Clark. Although the Gamecocks are competing against top-tier programs for these recruits, they are expected to land commitments from at least a few of them.

Currently, South Carolina is ranked 26th by On3 and 28th by 247Sports in team recruiting rankings. Successful commitments in the coming weeks could significantly boost these standings.
