It’s been over a year since wide receiver Corey Davis last took the field in the NFL, but that hasn’t stopped the Buffalo Bills from considering the former first-round pick for a workout.
Davis, who last played for the New York Jets in 2020, sought reinstatement to the NFL in March after sitting out the 2023 season, which many thought marked his official retirement.
Now 29, Davis has been released by the Jets and is attempting a comeback. He could potentially rejoin the AFC East with the Bills, who are in need of wide receiver reinforcements after losing their top two receivers, Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, during the offseason.
The Bills could use any help they can get, especially after placing Chase Claypool on injured reserve, leaving them without a clear No. 1 option for quarterback Josh Allen.
The team’s WR depth chart is filled with secondary options like Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, along with rookie Keon Coleman, who has potential but may experience growing pains in his first season.
Throughout his six-year career, Davis has never surpassed 1,000 receiving yards (although he came close with 984 yards in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans) or caught more than 65 passes in a season, but he brings a reliable veteran presence.
In 2022, Davis recorded 32 receptions on 64 targets for 536 yards and two touchdowns, and he could provide Buffalo with a solid 1A-1B option alongside either Coleman or Shakir.
