The Los Angeles Chargers are still active in free agency, recently signing defensive lineman Teair Tart. Tart had only been with the Miami Dolphins for four months before being released.
Miami Dolphins HC explained the release of Teair Tart, allowing the Los Angeles Chargers to pick him up

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel explained in an A to Z Sports article why safety Tart was with the team for only four months. McDaniel mentioned that Tart didn’t align well with the team’s defensive scheme, leading some fans to question the decision to sign him initially.
That’s a good pickup 💯

McDaniel stated, “It was clear from a scheme perspective that Tart wasn’t a good fit. We want to be proactive and give him a chance to succeed elsewhere if we believe his goals might not align with our system.”
The Dolphins were aware of Tart’s experience, as he had been in the league since 2020 with 36 starts. The team’s defensive scheme hadn’t changed significantly since Tart’s arrival, suggesting there might have been other factors involved.

The addition of Tart will greatly benefit the Chargers, who currently have a thin interior defensive line. Although Tart may not yet qualify as a “veteran presence,” he will offer valuable depth and make an impact on a line led by Morgan Fox, Otito Ogbonnia, and Poona Ford.

Tart, known for his run-stopping abilities rather than pass-rushing, is a significant force inside, making it challenging for opponents to run effectively. His most notable season was 2022, during which he recorded 24 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, and 1.5 sacks. That year, he earned a 73.1 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade, but he has not surpassed a 60 PFF grade in any other season.

The Chargers’ signing of Tart may not be a blockbuster move that grabs the attention of the entire NFL, but fans familiar with Tart’s defensive skills are enthusiastic about the addition and have shown their excitement on social media.
There goes another opportunity for the Chargers to bolster their defense. Here's hoping Tart finds his groove in LA!
